AOK SCHOLAR

AOK was founded on the belief that every hardworking student, no matter their background, deserves the post-secondary education that they’ve set their hearts and minds to. Created in 2013 by the Lawrence E. White Family Foundation, AOK Scholars recognizes promising and motivated students who have already overcome extraordinary life challenges, such as aging-out of
foster care programs or homelessness.

Through the work of AOK Specialists, our goal is for AOK Scholars to meet their post-secondary education goals with regular reviews of their academic progress, budget, and financial needs. AOK is not a scholarship, but it provides the elements crucial to the success of each individual through coaching and financial support resources.

''The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education.''

Tuition and Fees Exemptions for Students Who Are Experiencing Homelessness

If you are a student experiencing homelessness, we are committed to providing individualized support and various resources to all students who qualify for any possible exemptions. Our liaison is listed below and can assist with community resource referrals and any questions you may have.

Homeless Exemption

In accordance with Florida Statute 1009.25 and Rule 6A-10.087 Florida Administrative Code (F.A.C.), “students experiencing homelessness” means individuals who lack a fixed, regular and adequate nighttime residence.

To petition for the Students Experiencing Homelessness Exemption, students must submit a Florida Student Homelessness Verification for Tuition and Fees Exemption Purposes Form (Form FSH-1) to the Enrollment Service Center. Once the form is processed, the exemption will be applied to the student’s account for the appropriate tuition and fees charges. Students will be notified via their Lakehawk Mail account of the approval or denial of the exemption.

The paradox of education is precisely this - that as one begins to become conscious one begins to examine the society in which he is being educated.
