Changing Together has partnered with The Department of Health in addressing the South Florida Fentanyl epidemic. We have Naxolone in supply that can make an ompact on the people close in your life looking for a new start. There all also current pick up placement centers throughout South Florida we can provide you if you have the capacity to travel to one of the locations.
Carfentanil is a synthetic opioid approximately 10,000 times more potent than morphine and 100 times more potent than fentanyl. If inhaled by even inhalation externally, move the victim to fresh air.
In 2020, more than 6,150 people died from overdoses involving fentanyl and fentanyl analogs in Florida. For 2021, the latest provisional drug overdose death counts also indicate an increase in fatal overdoses caused by synthetic opioid.
3,388 of those that died in Florida in Miami-Dade and Broward since 2018. More than half of overdoses involving fentanyl, 2,045, happened in Broward County.
In Florida, Broward County leads the state in fentanyl-related deaths. In 2020, 798 people died due to accidental overdoses, with 611 cases involving fentanyl. That's a staggering 72 percent increase in overdose deaths involving fentanyl from the year prior. Though cases for 2021 and 2022 are still being analyzed, they, unfortunately, appear on track to set new records.
Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid 50 times stronger than heroin and 100 times stronger than morphine. Fentanyl overdose is the number one cause of death in Americans ages 18-45. Fentanyl is involved in more deaths of Americans under 50 than any cause of death, including heart disease, cancer, homicide, and suicide. Illegally made fentanyl is cheap and often created in unsanitary conditions. Because of fentanyl's potency, a drug dealer can use a small amount to make many drugs including fake prescription medications, and the dosage can vary.
We are here to help anyone overcoming the challenges of this matter with our Naxolone distribution system.
Mental Health
With our primary location in South Florida we offer on site psychiatric care. This includes prescritions, counserling, therapy, crisis management and suicide prevention.

Floridians are more than five times more likely to be forced out-of-network for mental health care than for primary health care. In 2021 20.7% of adolescence suffered from depression episodes. In 2020, suicide was the second leading cause of death among adolescents (ages 12-17) across the U.S.
31% of the homeless population reported a serious mental illness in 2023. Mental health issues are deeply connected to the trauma and adversity people who are homeless face. re receiving care in hospitals. Approximately 90,000 individuals with schizophrenia or manic-depressive illness are in all hospitals receiving treatment for their disease. 38% of all domestic abuse victims experience homelessness in there lives. In addition 90% of homeless women have experienced physical or sexual abuse in there lives. 57% of those women experienced abuse experienced the challenge of being homeless aas a direct and immediate matter caused. by the abuse. 94.% of male and female homeless experienced physical childhood abuse.

Some estimates suggest that up to 20% of people experiencing homelessness have schizophrenia. However, estimates vary widely, ranging from 2.29% to 60%. IN THE PAST YEAR ALONE, THE SHELTER HAS PROVIDED 45,618 SAFE SHELTER NIGHTS FOR SURVIVORS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND THEIR CHILDREN.
Through our emergency shelter program, victims of domestic violence and their children are given a safe environment and provided with supportive services, helping participants to rebuild and sustain independence and a violence-free future. FREE LEGAL ASSISTANCE FOR INJUNCTIONS (RESTRAINING ORDERS)
AND DEPENDENCY CASES
If you or a family member have been the victim of violence or stalking by another person, we can help. Taking legal action against an abuser is an important step in keeping you and your family safe. Obtaining an attorney, however, can be a huge financial burden. The Injunction for Protection Project (IFP) at Women In Distress eliminates barriers by providing free legal services to secure restraining orders against abusers and to help survivors defend against Dependency (a.k.a Child Welfare) cases resulting from Domestic Violence.
IFP Attorneys are Florida Bar-licensed and provide FREE legal representation and legal counsel in restraining order cases for Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Violence, and Stalking/Harassment/Cyberstalking. We also provide legal advice and representation to victims of violence involved in Dependency (Child Welfare) cases and/or Child Protective Investigations.
The Child and Family Therapy program at Women In Distress is innovative in the area of domestic violence as no other center in the state has a program focused on specialized clinical services for children starting at age two or younger.
Supporting the non-offending caregiver supports the well-being of the children. Parents have access to a supportive parenting group, which covers topics such as the effects of domestic violence on children, children’s safety during violent incidents, positive communication, trauma reduction, and learned behavior. Parents also learn several different parenting skills and techniques that help them maintain a positive parent-child relationship. The Nurturing Parent Support Group provides parents with education and positive parenting techniques focused on enhancing their parenting capacities and relationships with their children. The group’s curriculum is founded on skill building and is evidence-based.
Counseling and Therapy
The Advocacy team at Women In Distress is on the front lines assisting survivors with critical services to help them regain control of their lives and feel empowered.
CHILD ADVOCACY
Individual counseling and advocacy sessions are made available to children ages 4-17 in the Emergency Shelter and Outreach programs. By utilizing a variety of play, mindfulness, and art enrichment activities, our Family Advocates provide children individual counseling to assist them with processing their past experiences. Children learn to positively express their feelings, understand the dynamics of healthy relationships, and ultimately recognize and implement non-violent behaviors in their day-to-day lives. Counseling helps children cope with environmental and emotional stressors. Children are empowered to find solutions to specific problems and learn how to regulate their emotions.
Children have the right to be safe; our team of Family Advocates provides crucial safety planning to children which helps them stay safe. The safety plan serves as a tool for the child that they can use to protect themselves if violence occurs.
Children also have the option of participating in support groups that allow them to express themselves in a safe, non-judgmental environment while receiving support from peers who have had similar experiences.
Child Therapy
Even when children don’t see domestic abuse, they usually know it’s happening. It can affect them deeply. More than 50% of families experiencing domestic abuse occur in households with children under 12. These children are more likely to exhibit behavioral issues and mental health problems, including depression, anxiety, and violence toward peers.
Women In Distress operates a 24-hour crisis hotline that provides crisis intervention, advocacy services, counseling and information on domestic violence.

THE BROWARD PARTNERSHIP’S HOUSING DIVISION programs are rebuilding lives! Working together with other service providers throughout Broward County, we provide a full continuum of care to help individuals and families experiencing homelessness become stable and self-sufficient. We carefully craft our programs to give our clients everything they need to find stable housing and rebuild their lives.
Our Housing Programs link homeless adults and families to stable housing and vital resources in the community – with the goal of housing the most vulnerable people first.
SHORT-TERM HOUSING
Our Homeless Assistances Centers (HACs) operate low barrier shelters designed to screen clients in rather than screen them out, which ultimately increases access to shelter for some of the hardest to reach of the homeless population. This short-term intervention follows a Housing First model designed to quickly transition people to a stable housing situation and to provide the supportive services needed to increase income, improve their health status, and maintain their housing placement.
FAMILIES FIRST! RAPID RE-HOUSING
This intervention is designed to help individuals and families who may be situationally homeless who require short-term assistance with getting back on their feet. These programs provide housing location assistance, short-term assistance with rent payments, and short-term case management. We provide ongoing follow-up case management for up to a year after the household is placed into their new home to ensure things remain on track and avoid the pitfalls that might lead them back to the streets.
PERMANENT SUPPORTIVE HOUSING
This intervention provides long-term assistance with rent payments and long-term intensive case management, designed specifically for chronically homeless individuals and families. These clients are among the most vulnerable of the homeless population and have a long history of homelessness and a disabling condition. Permanent supportive housing program provide a higher level of involvement with case management to ensure that clients continue to maintain their housing placement.
THE BROWARD PARTNERSHIP’S HEALTHCARE UNIT
COMPREHENSIVE CARE THAT SAVES LIVES
People living on the streets experience the same health concerns as their housed counterparts, but at an alarmingly increased rate. Our healthcare program is staffed by medical professionals that assess each adult client upon intake, conducts thorough medical examinations, and provides urgent and primary care services. We also provide our clients with health and lifestyle education services, such as smoking cessation, nutrition, chronic disease management, drug and alcohol counseling, and other services that will help clients to better understand and manage their health challenges.
THE BROWARD PARTNERSHIP’S DENTAL CARE
For individuals experiencing homeless, dental care is often relegated to a lower priority than securing a safe place to sleep or finding a hot meal. A lack of dental care leads to missing teeth, diseased gums, and many other health concerns, not to mention a loss of confidence. The Broward Partnership’s Smiles Work! dental program provides a way for homeless adults to receive much-needed oral care at no cost.
IT’S ABOUT HEALTH AND SELF-CONFIDENCE
Dental care is a priority at the Partnership because for those who enter our doors, it’s about more than filling cavities. It’s about giving them the ability to once again smile, socialize, work and feel good about themselves.
DENTAL CARE PROVIDED ON-SITE INCLUDES:

HELPING THE ON-STREET POPULATION MOVE FORWARD
The Partnership’s Outreach Team funded by United Way continued providing assistance to the unsheltered population and kept moving forward to reach individuals and families experiencing homelessness that are living in places not meant for human habitation. Through the Targeted Clinical Outreach for Persons Experiencing Chronic Homelessness program, the Partnership provides case management and peer support services that include facilitating access to community services such as behavioral and primary healthcare, substance abuse counseling, obtaining state identification and driver’s license, acquiring entitlement benefits, and referrals to shelter that ultimately help lead to stable housing. The Partnership continued distributing water/ juice, snacks, and hygiene products. The Partnership maintained its frequent communications and collaborations with other shelter, meal service, and outreach providers, which resulted in sharing resources, experiences and helping ensure that the unsheltered homeless population continued to receive critical services. Many of the unsheltered population that become clients of the Partnership have chronic health conditions, are experiencing substance abuse or mental health issues, or have a physical disability. Approximately forty-one percent of the unsheltered population have all three. We have working relationships with the county commissioners, as well as various parties with the Partnership to get you the help you need, wehen you need it. Let us know how we can assist you.
